Do Not Call Cooperative for Canada

As survey professionals you have certainly encountered people who request, or more often adamantly insist, that telemarketing and research firms of all types not call them. These people are often very vocal about their opposition. They require special handling by interviewers and often require an apology and guarantees of no future call from the interviewers’ supervisors. Their telephone numbers must then be managed within each survey organization. Every survey research organization maintains such a list.
However, the very nature of the random selection process for general phone population means that sooner or later every survey is likely to dial a number where a respondent has already requested, and been promised, a Do Not Call designation by another firm. This compounds the aggravation and the level of annoyance demonstrated by respondents. The industry, as a whole, suffers from this lack of coordination and unlike in the United States, where the FCC has set up a National Do Not Call list, in Canada no such government legislated system exists. Sooner or later the pressure will mount again at the CRTC or in Parliament for some regulatory system imposed from outside.
Avoid making unwanted calls
As a major player in the provision of sample lists in Canada, ASDE Survey Sampler has taken it upon itself to coordinate a Canada-wide "Do Not Call" list. We want this to be an industry-wide initiative for improving the industry’s relationship with respondents as well as with regulatory agencies. This service is offered, free of charge, to all professional survey research organizations and is not exclusive to our clients.
