History
Mr. Michel Rochon founded ASDE SURVEY SAMPLER INC., a privately owned Canadian company, in 1994. We provide sampling services to the market research industry as well as related products such as telephone sampling software, predialing and list cleaning, list matching and IVR services.
ASDE is highly regarded by many experts in the market research industry and by all our clients. Our leadership role continues to grow as we are seen as the first place to go to.
In 2004, we obtained the ISO 9001-2000 certification. We are the first and only sampling company to obtain such certification. This certification guarantees that our systems and processes are consistent, and allows us to monitor the delivery of quality products and services.
President's Message
ASDE Survey Sampler celebrated 10 years of service to the Survey Research Industry in 2004. We didn't celebrate or make big announcements because we believe that quality speaks louder than words and that anniversaries require stock taking rather than chest thumping. Here is a quick look at some questions and speculations about what lies ahead.
When we started in 1994 we had a clear vision of only two things; they are still valid and, we believe, are still worth defending:
- The Survey Research industry needed better general population samples.
- The public must be protected from the exploitative methods of some phone operations and therefore we would provide our services EXCLUSIVELY to survey research organizations.
If we could see into the future, management life would be easy. However, not having future vision may be a blessing. Over time many methods from palm reading to horoscope casting and even more esoteric “sciences” have been tried. Serious managers know that the future is unknowable and the most we can do is prepare for change. We do retain two major tools to cope with this unknowable future.
The most common way to plan for the future, which is to extrapolate present trends into the future, is also the most dangerous because it assumes that “all other things remain equal”. That is rarely true. However with much care, a short time horizon and the ability to adjust some of the values of the controlling variables, it remains a useful tool. By the light of such extrapolation, it is possible to derive that:
- By favoring quality and methodological clarity we will continue to do well.
- Barring a drastic move by the survey research industry to methodologies in which we have nothing to provide, we will continue to dramatically increase our share of the total market, at the expense of lower quality competitors.
- Price will continue to be a driving issue for our market, but we will continue to be by far the low cost solution, especially to those clients who consider the total phone room costs and not the sampling cost in isolation.
- The pool of cooperative respondents, a no cost “common good” to the industry as a whole, will continue to decline and may disappear unless the whole industry reacts to the current blind folly of over exploitation.
The second way to plan the future is to decide how one will respond to changing circumstances, which are unknown at the planning stage. This is where the decision to hold fast to our basic principles takes all its value:
- Continue in our commitment to phone methodologies and be ready for all technological innovations in this field.
- Continue developing, testing and comparing innovative and methodologically sound means of identifying statistically valid pools of cooperative respondents.
- Develop more innovative ways to protect and possibly enlarge the pool of cooperative respondents. We will work on this, through the industry associations if possible, but directly if necessary.
